Weekend in the Studio
My biggest writing project of 2025 was an audio drama script for Discerning Hearts Radio Theatre of which my brother is director and producer.
Over the last two weekends, the crew and voice actors were hard at work in the studio to bring it to life.
It is the culmination of many answered prayers!
The concept began five years ago, but after several failed attempts it was put on the back burner. It was dug out again at the beginning of 2025 and underwent months of crew meetings, prayer, and rewriting. A wonderful editor friend (thank you so much, Betsey!) combed through the whole script for anything cumbersome or inconsistent, and made it more of what it could be.
I was totally inadequate to write this story, and the fact that it has reached this point is not because of me. I don't deserve to have the Lord work through me at all, but somehow He has. It doesn't really feel like my story anymore, and I don't think it is.
I look forward to Fool’s Gold being released, Lord willing, by August 2026!
It's 1849, and as young Dr. Stephen Winston struggles to understand a disruption to his life plans, he is allured by the gold fields of California. Refusing to face his true motives, he leaves his brother’s warnings behind to join the rush and start his first practice in the mining camps, where the miners’ search for gold collides with his inner turmoil. Why does his gold-struck fellow traveler always rub him the wrong way? Will a girl's prayer for her sister ever be answered? Can anything change the heart of a crime-hardened young miner before it's too late? And what will a boy's questions reveal about Stephen’s own heart?
Fool’s Gold takes you on a journey into the mining camps where thieves threaten to steal more than gold, and often don't take the form we expect.
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death
-Philippians 3:7-10 (KJV)
Enjoy a few pictures from the studio. The cast did an amazing job this weekend!
